About DNS Proxy
DNS Proxy is used to identify individual users and report on their activity in WebTitan Cloud. Once installed and configured, DNS Proxy is responsible for:
Uploading user and group information to WebTitan Cloud.
Processing all DNS requests for onsite users as the primary DNS server, which provides it with the internal IP addresses of all machines making DNS requests.
Redirecting all internal DNS requests to your Active Directory and redirecting external DNS queries along with metadata to WebTitan Cloud.
Downloading and Installing DNS Proxy
The minimum system requirements for DNS Proxy are:
2 CPU core
2GB RAM
20GB disk space
Follow the steps below to download and install DNS Proxy.
Click here to download the DNS Proxy ISO image (DnsProxy.iso). The current version of DNS Proxy is 3.01.
Using your preferred VM software, install the DNS Proxy ISO (DnsProxy.iso) selecting FreeBSD (64bit) as the OS. Alternatively, you can install directly on hardware which must be FreeBSD compliant.
Once you run DnsProxy.iso, the following window displays:
Press Enter to choose OK.
In the Keymap Selection window, select United Kingdom and press Enter to Select.
In the Keymap Section window, select Continue with uk.iso.kbd keymap and press Enter to choose Select.
In the Set Hostname window, enter the hostname to be assigned to the newly installed appliance. The hostname should be a fully-qualified hostname. Press Enter to select OK.
DNS Proxy automatically partitions the disk. In the Partitioning window, press Enter to select Commit and allow the installation to run.
A list of all network interfaces found on the computer is shown in the Network Configuration window. Select one to be configured and press Enter to select OK.
The application must be configured with a static IP address. Enter the following information in the Network Configuration window:
IP Address: The IPv4 address to be assigned to this computer. This IP must be unique and not already in use elsewhere on the local network.
Tip
Use the keyboard up arrow and down arrow to move between fields.
Subnet Mask: The subnet mask used for the local network. This is usually 255.255.255.0
Default Router: The IP address of the default router/gateway on this network.
Press Enter to select OK.
The DNS resolver converts hostnames to and from network addresses. At least one DNS server is required.
Search: Enter your local network's domain name.
IPv4 DNS #1: Address for your local DNS server.
IPv4 DNS #2: Address for your local DNS server.
Press Enter to select OK.
The 'Select local or UTC (Greenwich Mean Time) clock' window allows you to set your time zone. Setting the time zone allows the application to automatically correct for any regional time changes and perform other time zone related functions properly.
If you don't know whether your system uses UTC or local time, select No to choose your local region and country.
In the Time & Date window confirm your system Month, Year and Date.
Allow the installer to install packages.
If prompted, enter your WebTitan Cloud IP and press Enter to select OK.
When installation is complete, the Complete window displays. If applicable, remove the installation media or the machine will boot from it again. Press Enter to select Reboot.
After reboot, use the displayed URL to access DNS Proxy and complete the configuration and application setup.
Configuring DNS Proxy
Open a browser and go to the IP address assigned to DNS Proxy during installation.
Enter the default login details:
Administrator: admin
Password: hiadmin
Tip
Once logged in, click the Change Password tab to change the default password.
Edit your DNS Settings to connect to WebTitan Cloud:
Go to Configuration > Network > DNS SETTINGS.
In the WebTitan Cloud IP: field enter the IP address of your WebTitan Cloud:
Enter the corresponding IP for your WebTitan Login URL from the table below. For example, if you log in from https://uiwtc6.webtitancloud.com/ enter 34.193.247.26.

Click Save.
If you have internal domains that you want to redirect to an internal DNS server, follow these steps:
Go to Configuration > Network > DNS SETTINGS.
In the Exceptions: section click Add.
In the Add Domain window, enter details of the domain you want to redirect:
Click Save.
Repeat steps 1-4 to enter all domains you wish to redirect or drop. All other requests will be forwarded to WebTitan Cloud for resolution.
Edit your WebTitan Cloud credentials:
Go to Configuration > Cloud Credentials.
Enter the email address and password for your WebTitan Cloud account.
Click Save.
Create the sync to your Active Directory:
Go to Configuration > Active Directory > Active Directory Servers.
Click Add and the Add Active Directory Domain window displays.
Use this table below as a reference and complete the Add Active Directory Domain window:

IP address or fully qualified domain name of your active directory server
Search Base:
The base entry distinguished name (DN) as configured on the LDAP server. The base entry serves as the starting point of the LDAP directory search. For example, dc=rainbowx,dc=net
This field auto populates. Type DN and select the first entry.
Server login user:
Username for your LDAP server (£ is not permitted in the username).
Server login password:
Password for your LDAP server (£ is not permitted in the password).
Enable periodic import:
Select to enable periodic imports of users from your LDAP server.
Import frequency:
If you selected 'Enable periodic import', use this drop-down to select the frequency you want to receive imports from your LDAP server.
Click Save and your server should now appear under Active Directory Servers.
To import your users and groups to DNS Proxy, click the check box to the left of your server listing:
Click Import Users.
To sync your users and groups to your WebTitan Cloud interface, click the check box to the left of your server listing again.
Click Sync Users.
Once you have imported your users, you can verify the sync with Active Directory was successful by logging into your WebTitan Cloud account and checking the Users and Groups tabs to see if they have been populated with the expected information.
