Locations are used to identify all your organization's network locations to WebTitan Cloud. A location is simply an IP address from which WebTitan Cloud will accept and process DNS requests. Once specified, WebTitan Cloud will only accept and process DNS requests that originate from the IP address(es) that have been associated with your particular location(s).
WebTitan Cloud supports several types of location and you can define multiple locations for each type:
Static IP location: This is the most common location type, where the location has a static (fixed) public/external IP address. The IP address is simply added as a location and this configures WebTitan Cloud to accept DNS requests only from that IP address.
Dynamic IP location: If your location has a dynamic IP address, there are two options available:
Dynamic IP: Dynamic IP uses the Dynamic IP Agent to keep WebTitan Cloud updated with your current IP address as it changes. This agent must be downloaded and installed inside your network.
Dynamic DNS: this location type is an alternative to Dynamic IP and uses a Dynamic DNS service that provides an FQDN which resolves to your current IP address.
Roaming location: use this location type when a location will vary, e.g. an employee who travels frequently and uses their laptop offsite.
A roaming location requires WebTitan OTG to be installed on the user's machine which will then automatically update WebTitan Cloud as the IP address changes.
Virtual location: Virtual locations use a tag to identify a location rather than an IP address.
Adding a Static IP Location
Static IP is the most common location type, where the location has a static (fixed) public IP address. Once you add your static IP, this configures WebTitan Cloud to accept DNS requests only from that IP address.
Follow these steps to add a static IP location:
Go to Settings > Locations > Static IP. Click Add and the following window displays:
Enter your IP address. You can enter a single IP, or a range of IP addresses as a CIDR block e.g. 1.1.1.0/24.
Tip
Your current IP address is displayed on the top right of the WebTitan Cloud interface.
Assign a location name for this IP address, e.g. Main Office.
Assign a policy to this location (default: default policy).
Note
If a user of the location can be identified, then a specific group or user policy will take priority over the location policy.
Click Save.
Adding a Dynamic IP Location
Important
For WebTitan Cloud to continue identifying your location as your dynamic IP address changes, you must install WebTitan Dynamic IP Agent. When this agent is downloaded and installed (with the generated location key) on at least one computer in your network, it will automatically update WebTitan Cloud as your IP changes.
Follow these steps to add a dynamic IP location:
Go to Settings > Locations > Dynamic IP. Click Add and the following window displays:
In the IP: field, enter your current IP address.
In the Location Name: field, assign a name for this location, e.g. Main Office.
Assign a policy to this location (default: default policy).
Note
If a user of the location can be identified, then a specific group or user policy will take priority over the location policy.
Click Save.
A location key is generated and displayed in the Location Key column. Use this key to configure the Dynamic IP Agent during installation:

Adding a Dynamic DNS Location
Dynamic DNS can be used as an alternative to Dynamic IP to achieve the same result. With dynamic DNS, when the IP address associated with your dynamic DNS hostname changes, WebTitan Cloud will automatically discover this and update the location IP address.
To use dynamic DNS, you must firstly ensure this service is supported on your network. Many routers and other network appliances already have dynamic DNS functionality built in; refer to your appliances documentation for more information. You will also need to sign up with a dynamic DNS host provider who will issue you with a hostname and provide any software to be installed on your network.
Once you have dynamic DNS in place, follow the steps below to add a Dynamic DNS location in WebTitan Cloud:
Go to Settings > Locations > Dynamic DNS. Click Add and the following window displays:
Enter your DNS Name, e.g. www.example.com.
Assign a Location Name for this location, e.g. Main Office.
Assign a policy to this location (default: default policy).

Click Save.
Adding a Roaming Location
To add a Roaming location, you will need to download and install WebTitan OTG 1 on the user's laptop. This allows the user to be filtered by WebTitan Cloud when they are off-site.

Adding a Virtual Location
Virtual locations use a tag to identify a location rather than an IP address. DNS requests can contain a metadata tag which is compared to known locations. To use the virtual location functionality, your router or endpoint will need to add the metadata in the form of an EDNS record.
A virtual location can be added manually, as described below, or automatically as part of an OTG installation. See WebTitan OTG 2 for Windows Guide for more information.
To add a virtual location:
Go to Settings > Locations > Virtual. Click Add and the following window displays:
In the Tag field, assign a Tag for this location, e.g. campus_0123.
In the Location Name: field, assign a name to this location, e.g. Engineering Campus.
Assign a policy to this location (default: default policy).

If a user of the location can be identified, then a specific group or user policy will take priority over the location policy.
Click Save.
